While Dibango's contributions to the music world were enormous, he faced some controversies during his lifetime. He claimed that Michael Jackson borrowed elements of his 'Soul Makossa' track without permission in the song 'Wanna Be Startin' Somethin',' which sparked a legal battle. Nonetheless, he continued to inspire many musicians and fans, and his legacy lives on long after his passing in 2020.
