The Canadian-based band’s music style is unique, appealing, and leaves an indelible mark on the listener. This four-piece band journeys into an uncharted territory of contemporary bluegrass and blends it with a touch of Gothic and folk music. The Dead South formed in 2012 in Regina, Saskatchewan. The band comprises of four members; Nate Hilts, Scott Pringle, Danny Kenyon, and Colton Crawford. The journey of The Dead South started when Nate and Scott’s former band broke up, and they decided to form a new group. They invited Danny, a friend, and a multi-instrumentalist, to join the band, and Colton Crawford completed the band's lineup. The Dead South started by performing in small gigs and playing covers of their favorite songs. They released their first album, Good Company, in 2014. The album's success led to increased exposure and gained them a vast fan base worldwide. The band has since then released two more albums titled; Illusion & Doubt (2016) and Sugar & Joy (2019).
The Dead South’s music genre is often described as a fusion of bluegrass, folk, and Gothic styles. The band's unique sound is a blend of old-time string band music, fast-paced bluegrass, and a blend of instruments such as cello, mandolin, guitar, and banjo.
