Gangsta rap is a musical genre that developed in the mid ‘80s as an evolution of hip-hop music. The lyrics are explicitly violent and sometimes homophobic, telling about drug, sex, guns and criminal activities, the typical setting of street gangs and gangsters. The label that invented and promoted the genre is the California-based Ruthless Records, and Eazy-E was the rapper who, among others, made gangsta rap worldwide famous.
