It’s Breakbeat Music, what are you waiting for?
Breakbeat is an electronic music sub-genre started in last decades of 1900s and enjoyed its golden era in early 1990s. It was recognized when DJ Kool Herc was playing funk breaks in rows through irregular drum beats on songs written by James Brown, Funky Drummer, The Winstons or The Amen Brother. They were striving to create the symphony of hip hop music. Afrika Bambaataa and Grand Wizard Theodore played a role in its reformation and this music genre gained popularity on the fact that it was providing a chance to dancers to display their art at dancing through breaks. Acid house artists dwelled to create hardcore music for raves but with the advent of jungle hardcore it suffered a downfall.
On a stylistic basis it takes from drum and bass, hip hop, jungle, big beat, UK garage and hardcore. Breakbeat is characterized by the variation on drum beat, its low or mid tempo of approximately 100 to 125 BPM along with non-straightened 4/4 rhythm syncopations. The age of electronic music paved the way to breakbeat composers, with the relative easiness of editing and looping the beats.
