'big beats' genre by releasing his first single, "Dub be good to me", which was a number one hit single for Norman Cook, the creator and number one DJ known on stage as Fatboy Slim. Launching his own record label in the 1990's ‘Beats International', bringing awareness and popularity to the 'big beats' genre of that time. In the 1990's the English rave scene took off with the introduction of popular music subcultures, chill out, British hip hop, acid house, and big beats a style of
electronic music.
Big beats was described and used to identify the DJ music style by the use of synthesizer generated hoops and heavy breakbeats, with a European influence of trance style. This style of mixing came a favorite amongst DJ artists
Chemical Brothers, Monkey Mafia and many other British hip-hop and electronic pop genres mixing and forming a new and exciting combination of dance and rave.
Fatboy Slim, came across 'big beats' with Damien Harris back in the days of the club night, 'The Big Beat Boutique', between 1995 and 2001. Held at the Concorde club in Brighton, United Kingdom. With a laid back open-minded approach, Fatboy slim had an audience who wanted to feel the vibration and beats of the mixed attribute dance music, experimenting amongst various genres, bringing a new
dance culture of the 90’s.
